Pest Control Services in Detroit, Dearborn and Hamtramck
Four kinds of pest work, each matched to the pest and to how it got inside.
Most calls start with one sign that’s become hard to ignore: droppings in a drawer, ants on the counter, a welt that wasn’t there yesterday, a nest over the back door. We handle four kinds of pest work in houses, flats, duplexes, apartment buildings and small storefronts. Whatever the pest, we trace how it’s getting in, then seal gaps and set treatments to match.

Wasps and hornets. You may need this if a paper nest is growing under the eaves or wasps keep flying in and out of one spot.

Mice and rats have a service of their own, because they’re handled with trapping and exclusion rather than sprays. Bed bugs and stinging insects each need their own methods too, so they’re kept separate.
How the Pests Compare at a Glance
The same house can hold more than one pest, and the first sign you notice is usually the best clue to which one you have. Where it turns up matters almost as much as what it looks like.
| The pest | Where it’s usually found | A sign you’ll notice first | Page to read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mice | Basements, kitchen cabinets, behind the stove and inside walls | Small dark droppings, about the size of a grain of rice, in drawers or along walls | Rodent Control |
| Rats | Basements, garages, under porches and along the foundation | Larger droppings, gnawed wood or greasy smudges along a wall | Rodent Control |
| Cockroaches | Kitchens and bathrooms, close to warmth and water | Roaches scattering when a light goes on, or specks like ground pepper in cabinet corners | Cockroach and Ant Control |
| Ants | Kitchen counters, window sills and along baseboards | A steady trail to food or the sink, most often in spring | Cockroach and Ant Control |
| Spiders | Basements, window wells, garages and the corners of rooms | Webs that come back days after you clear them | Cockroach and Ant Control |
| Bed bugs | Mattress seams, box springs, headboards and couch edges | Itchy welts after sleeping, or rusty spots on the sheets | Bed Bug Treatment |
| Wasps and hornets | Under eaves, in sheds and garages, and inside wall gaps | Insects flying steadily in and out of one spot | Wasp and Hornet Removal |
Some signs could belong to more than one pest. Droppings can mean mice, rats or cockroaches depending on their size and shape, and itchy bites don’t always come from bed bugs. When a sign doesn’t point clearly one way, comparing it with the other signs of pests usually narrows it down, along with how soon it needs attention.
A Few Things to Check
- When you first noticed it, which room it was in, and whether it happens at night or during the day.
- A clear photo, or the insect itself sealed in a jar or a zip-top bag.
- Leaks or damp under the kitchen and bathroom sinks, since water draws roaches and ants.
- Gaps around the pipes under the sinks and behind the stove or the washer.
None of this means moving furniture or crawling into a crawlspace. Try not to spray a store-bought insecticide in the days before a visit, though. It scatters roaches and ants into new hiding places and hides the trail that shows where they’ve been living.
Why Roach Work Looks Nothing Like Rodent Work
The methods differ from pest to pest, but every visit starts with a walk-through and a written estimate, and it helps to know What to Expect before the day.
Mice and Rats
Rodent work usually pairs trapping inside the house with exclusion outside: finding the gaps they use and closing them with metal mesh, sealant and door sweeps they can’t chew through. In older brick houses with basements, most of that work happens along the foundation, and mice push indoors hardest once the cold sets in each autumn.
Cockroaches, Ants and Spiders
Roaches are usually treated with gel baits and careful crack-and-crevice work where they hide, rather than by spraying open surfaces, and the job goes better when leaks are fixed and food is put away. Ants are traced back toward the nest, since wiping up a trail doesn’t stop the colony. In flats, duplexes and apartment buildings, roaches travel between units through shared walls and pipes, so it helps when the neighbors deal with them at the same time.
Bed Bugs
Bed bug work starts with a close look at the mattress, box spring, bed frame and nearby furniture, then treatment of the places they hide. Eggs can survive a single treatment, so the work usually runs over more than one visit, with laundry and clearing clutter on your side in between.
Wasps and Hornets
A typical removal treats the nest first and takes it down once the insects inside are dead. Nests inside a wall are treated through the opening they use, and that opening is sealed only afterward. Paper wasp nests under the eaves are usually the easy ones; yellowjackets in the ground or inside a wall are the ones not to tackle yourself.
Sealing and Inspection on Rodent Jobs
These three come from our own rodent jobs and show the sealing and inspection side of the work: wire mesh fixed over the gap under a porch, mesh and foam closing the gap where siding meets the foundation, and a flashlight check of a crawlspace sill.
